“In a region characterised by daily conflict and despair, the health and education programs run by the Diocese of Jerusalem are a demonstration of practical Christian concern and care for all people – regardless of ethnic or religious affiliation. I am delighted to partner with the Diocese in supporting some of the poorest and most desperate people in the region.”

Jerusalem: Development worker

Jerusalem - Health, peace and justice

The Middle East is a region profoundly affected by conflict, poverty, and misunderstanding. In this context, the Episcopal (Anglican) Diocese of Jerusalem is a vital voice of hope, mutual respect and practical care for thousands of people in Palestine, Israel, Jordan, Syria and Lebanon.

The Bishop of Jerusalem, Suheil Dawani, seeks to provide a stabilising and moderating influence in a context of tension, while also speaking up for peace and the wellbeing of marginalised people.

The health, education and reconciliation role played by the Diocese is particularly important in the West Bank, where the Christian minority are routinely persecuted and marginalised.

Anglicord is committed to provide partial funding for an experienced Community Development worker to support the health, education, and reconciliation programs within the Diocese. The Diocese of Jerusalem will fund the other half of the position.

Through these programs, some of the poorest and most marginalised people in the region can access healthcare, education, and support – regardless of ethnic or religious affiliation.

Anglicord has partnered with the Diocese of Jerusalem for more than 20 years, including providing support for health care through the Al Ahli Hospital in Gaza, and the St Luke’s Hospital and Penman Clinic in the West Bank.
Anglicord aims to support and strengthen the vital community development programs of the Diocese, including the commitment to interfaith initiatives and broader ecumenical activities to promote peace and a just resolution to the Palestinian and Israeli conflict.
