A woman in the Afar region in Ethiopia has a 1 in 12 chance of dying from pregnancy-related complications.

 

In Kenya, the estimated number of children (aged 0-14) living with HIV in 2009 was 180,000.

Maternal and child health

Lack of access to maternal and child health care in the nomadic Afar region means a high infant mortality rate, high maternal death rates, and poor health and nutrition for the surviving children.With help from substantial funding from AusAID, Anglicord is embarking on a major project over five years to address these challenges, building on the strengths of its previous work in the Afar region.

Ethiopia: Afar health and literacy

Prior to 2000, the community was without health and education services. With Anglicord help, the Afar Pastoral Development Association (APDA) has been able to provide primary health care, health education as well as literacy and non-formal education.
