Essential Medical Care
In the Middle East, AngliCORD supports the provision of essential medical care, particularly through Ahli Arab Hospital in Gaza, and St Luke's Hospital in Nablus.
Ahli Arab Hospital provides comprehensive medical care to some of the 1.4 million people living in the Gaza Strip - one of the most densely populated and impoverished communities in the world.
Ahli provides free medical and surgical care, and promotes public health to all people in Gaza, regardless of race, gender, ethnic or political affiliations.
Shelling and conflict place a heavy load on Ahli's emergency medical team, and the high levels of unemployment and stress are promoting mental health and poverty-related illnesses such as depression, malnutrition, diarrhoea, and skin disease.
In Gaza more than 60 percent of the population live in refugees camps and even more are unemployed.
Less than 3,000 people in Gaza are Christians, yet the hospital is known and respected for its high quality care for all people.
Through outreach clinics Ahli Arab Hospital is reaching thousands of people in villages isolated by the security restrictions. For many of these families reaching medical care, even in an emergency, is impossible.
During each clinic, a team including a physician, paediatrician, surgeon, social worker and nurses provide free medical assessments for all in need. A food ration pack is distributed to each family. Ahli is flooded with requests for such health clinics across Gaza.
Ahli Arab has also developed a simple book on emergency first aid to help save lives.
The fully illustrated guide gives clear information on dealing with injured people when a hospital cannot be reached. Ahli is also training community members in safer ways to transport the injured to hospital when ambulance travel is restricted.
With your support, AngliCORD can fund more outreach clinics in isolated villages.
