ANGLICORD’S 2012 AUTUMN APPEAL

When you give to Anglicord, you are supporting an approach to aid and development that focuses on the strengths and resources of our partners and their communities, helping them to help themselves.

Here are just some of the ways we are helping poor and isolated communities to realise their potential with your support:

Strong mothers and healthy children in Ethiopia and Kenya. By training skilled birth attendants, improving maternal and child nutrition, and providing education, we plan to increase the number of women in Kenya having safe births rise from under 10% to 50%.
Income and education in Solomon Islands. Solar lights free up women from having to earn money to buy kerosene, reducing the pressure on families and increasing family income.
Breast cancer treatment for women in Palestine. Providing early detection and access to appropriate treatment will improve their chances of survival, and improve the outlook for their children and communities.
Building resilient communities in Africa. In Lesotho, Grahamstown and Mozambique, we help people to retain their self esteem and health, while enabling them to continue to contribute to their communities through support groups, education programs and organic food production.

After another year of drought and famine in East Africa, it’s easy to focus on the lack of resources in communities living in poverty. People may lack physical resources like food and water, but what they do have in abundance is determination, strength and hope.

In the communities where Anglicord works, we see people every day, working hard to lift themselves out of poverty, no matter what the circumstances. They are often young mums, determined to provide food, education and a future for their families.

With your support, so much has already changed. Our Autumn Appeal 2012 is called “The Power To Change,” because your generosity really does change lives.

Valerie Browning works with the Africa Australia Community Engagement Scheme in Ethiopia, in partnership with Anglicord. Anglicord is a member of the ACT Alliance and a signatory to the ACFID Code of Conduct. If funds raised exceed the requirements of the project, they will be redirected to other urgent programs.
