Action by Churches Together

AngliCORD supports the Action by Churches Together (ACT) International alliance.

As a small agency it is strategic and effective to support experienced partners in emergency response efforts.

ACT is a global allience of Protestant and Orthodox churches and their related agencies from the membership of the World Council of Churches and the Lutheran World Federation. ACT works in partnership with Caritas, the Catholic overseas relief and development network.

ACT offers assistance to victims of natural disasters, as well as in emergencies caused by war and civil conflict through member agencies.

ACT strives to reach those in need irrespective of race, gender, belief, nationality, ethnic origin, or political persusion.

Members in Europe, North America, Asia, and the Pacific raise funds for this work from private donations, church collections, and governments.

The ACT coordinating office is in Geneva, Switzerland.

ACT has strong local roots with member agencies in populations affected by emergencies and is therefore able to provide locally based knowledge, analysis, and understanding of emergencies.

ACT members have experience in a range of emergency sectors.

ACT emergency funding totaled US$ 52.7 million in 2003. More than 72% of the total funding was from private donations.
