Support: Pacific Tsunami Appeal

A series of devastating tsunamis have struck Samoa, American Samoa and Tonga killing scores of people, flattening villages and causing massive destruction.

At least 150 people were killed by the deadly waves with struck the South Pacific countries on 29 September. Authorities fear many more people may have died on outlying islands.

Thousands have been left homeless following the tsunami onslaught which was triggered by a massive 8.0-magnitude undersea quake.

Both Samoa and Tonga have declared a State of Emergency with Samoa's National Disaster Council predicting that infrastructure damage would exceed $41 million.

AngliCORD is urgently appealing for donations to support those affected by the tsunamis in the South Pacific.

AngliCORD will be working closely with the Polynesian Diocese of the Anglican Church to ensure that our response meets the highest priority needs of the local population.

Our focus will be on helping families in the region to rebuild their lives.

Most of those killed in the tsunami disaster are children, the elderly and women, according to reports.

At least 20 villages are thought to have been flattened and many islanders are now living in fear of landslides and disease.

AngliCORD CEO Misha Coleman said: “I’ve been told about children’s shoes being washed up on the shoreline and scattered through the debris.

“I picture that in my mind and think, how can we not act?”
